The best action movie is the one where the stunts serve a story you care about. That is why The Dark Knight, RRR and John Wick: Chapter 4 still get rewatched years later, while many louder films are forgotten within a month.
This guide covers the top 10 best action movies, then splits the rest by what you are likely looking for: action Hindi movies, South Indian blockbusters, English action movies, action adventure films, action movie series, action movies with a female lead, and how to find something on Netflix.
How These Action Movies Were Ranked
Rankings are editorial opinion, not box-office data or audience ratings. Each film was judged on four things:
- Story: does the plot give the action a reason to exist?
- Action design: are stunts staged clearly, or lost in fast cuts?
- Rewatch value: does it hold up on a second viewing?
- Cultural impact: did it change how action films are made?
The 10 Best Action Movies of All Time
The Dark Knight (2008)
The benchmark for the action thriller. Heath Ledger's Joker turns every chase and heist into a moral test. Many consider it the greatest action movie ever made.
RRR (2022)
Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. play two revolutionaries in 1920s colonial India. The action is enormous, and it works because the friendship at its centre holds up under the spectacle.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The payoff to more than a decade of connected films. Watch it last, not first. More on the Avengers: Endgame encore.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Long, clearly filmed fight sequences with very little quick-cut confusion. The best pick for pure choreography.
Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017)
Answers the question India waited two years for. Palace intrigue, romance and large-scale war scenes, best watched right after the first film.
KGF: Chapter 2 (2022)
Yash returns as Rocky, with Sanjay Dutt as the villain Adheera. Slow-motion hero moments and a heavy score define its style.
Dhurandhar (2025)
Headlined by Ranveer Singh, it leans on espionage and tension rather than nonstop fights. A sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, is listed for 2026.
Iron Man (2008)
